DANONE GROUP TO ACQUIRE 40% OF AMERICAN YOGHURT PRODUCER STONYFIELD FARM.(Brief Article)

The French agri-food group Danone has announced the acquisition of a 40% stake in Stonyfield Farm, America's leading producer of organic yoghurt. Under the terms of the agreement between the two groups, financial details of which have not been revealed, Danone may take a majority stake in Stonyfield Farm in 2004, though the American company will continue to be led by its current Chairman, Gary Hirshberg.

Stonyfield Farm posts turnover of about USD85 million. The deal is being presented by both groups as a long-term partnership. Danone Chairman Franck Riboud has indicated in a statement that he hopes Stonyfield will strengthen the Danone group whilst maintaining its present culture and management team.
