STATISTICS: COMMISSION APPROVES TECHNICAL ACTION PLAN.(Brief Article)

The European Commission has approved its annual Technical Action Plan for Agricultural Statistics (TAPAS) for the coming year. The plan, which was cleared on January 9, is worth some Euro 935,000 in 2002, which will go towards the costs of collecting agricultural statistics across the EU. The aim of the programme is to dramatically improve the quality of farming statistics collected in the EU to allow agricultural policy to be determined with greater certainty.

The most significant aspect of the plan is the introduction this year of a "rural development" component to the compilation of the figures.
