GENETIC ENGINEERING: SWISS PARLIAMENT VOTES TO REJECT GM MORATORIUM.(Brief Article)

EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries, has welcomed the June 12 decision by the Swiss Parliament to reject the moratorium on genetically-modified crops. The Lower House voted to reject the moratorium by a narrow margin of 77votes to 70. This decision reflects an about-turn by Switzerland's Lower House to support the Upper House, which the week before had overwhelmingly voted against any moratorium by a majority of 29 to 6 votes.

Back in May, the Lower House had originally voted in favor of a moratorium (83:78) which triggered a search for common ground between the two Houses.
