MEPS ADOPT REPORT ON ARCTIC FARMING.(Brief Article)

The European Parliament's Agriculture Committee adopted an own-initiative report by Finnish liberal Mikko Pesala on Arctic agriculture, which asks the policy-makers in the European Commission to explicitly survey and recognise the problems faced by farmers North of the 60th parallel. The EU executive should then provide support measures in the context of rural development and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that make allowances for their difficult position.

As such, Mr Pesala criticises the recent reforms of the CAP for failing to address the specific issues of Arctic agriculture.
