EU/ECUADOR : WTO LOOKS SET TO OUTLAW EU BANANA RULES.

The World Trade Organisation is understood to have once again ruled against the EU banana import scheme following the complaint lodged by Ecuador against the 27. A confidential preliminary report transmitted to the two parties on 29 November apparently sides with Quito, according to diplomatic sources in Geneva. This would be a new setback for the Union, which was already found to be in breach of WTO rules in 2001 for its banana import scheme, considered discriminatory by Latin American exporters and the United States.
