MEAT : AID FOR PRIVATE STORAGE OF PIGMEAT CONTINUES.

The European Commission announced, at the Agriculture Council on 18 February in Brussels, that it intends to prolong for three months its aid scheme for private storage of pigmeat. The decision responds only partially to the concerns of Germany and France, which want more ambitious actions to deal with the serious crisis on the pork market.

Germany, backed by France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, had called for discussion of the market crisis by the EU agriculture ministers.
