GERMAN VINEYARD MUST PAY BACK STATE AID.

The European Commission decided, on 20 May, that aid amounting to 541,859 granted by the Land Hessen to Hessische Staatsweinguter - the biggest vineyard in Germany, owned by the Land Hessen - in the period before 2002 did not comply with EU state aid rules and has to be recovered with interest.

It found that the loss coverage in this period constitutes operating aid, incompatible with state aid rules.
