The Court of Justice of the European Communities, on 22 January, held a formal sitting at which the two new members of the European Commission gave their solemn undertaking in accordance with the Treaties. Following the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union on 1 January 2007, the Council of the European Union has appointed Meglena Kuneva and Leonard Orban as members of the European Commission for the period from 12 January 2007 to 31 October 2009.
