On 13 November, the European Parliament ratified the EU's visa facilitation and readmission agreements with Ukraine. The agreements were signed by Brussels and Kiev in June 2007 and are expected to enter into force by the end of the year, provided the Ukrainian parliament concludes the ratification process soon.

The agreement on visa facilitation eases the procedures for issuing short-stay visas for Ukrainian citizens. The agreement also sets out simplified criteria for issuing multiple-entry visas for many groups of people. Moreover, visa fees applied by Schengen member states are fixed at 35.
