FDA approves new bottling at Dean Foods. (Industry Watch).(Brief Article)

Dean Foods announced that its Morningstar unit has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a bottling technology that extends the shelf life of dairy-based beverages.

The company said that fresh milk typically has a shelf life of two weeks, but the new technology could extend shelf life to as long as 180 days. The technology, to be used on Dean Foods' Stork filler line in Mt. Crawford, Va., also allows products to be stored and shipped at room temperature.

Morningstar will begin leveraging the Stork technology by processing its single-serve Hershey's flavored milk and shake products and its Folgers Jakada coffee beverages on this Stork line. The com pany also anticipates installing a similar line in its City of Industry,...
