The Food and Drug Administration plans to accelerate its procurement over the next few weeks as it prepares to implement a new accounting system, according to Marketing Outsource Associates Inc.

FDA offices have been told to process as many requisitions as possible by March 18 so that awards can be made before the old accounting system is shut down at the end of that month. FDA's parent, the Health and Human Services Department, plans to install a new Unified Financial Management System by the end of April, reducing the department's accounting systems from five to two.

FDA also plans to implement a new iProcurement system in April that is designed to streamline the management of requisitions, purchase orders, RFQs and receipts.
