Set-Aside Alert, December, 2005
The House and Senate added $3 million to President Bush's 2006 budget request for the Small Business Administration. But the $456 million SBA appropriation that was approved by Congress Nov. 17 is about half the agency's budget when President Bush took office.
Congress added funding for several programs that the administration wanted to eliminate, including the Microloan program, and increased funding for small business development centers and women's business centers.
The additional money will allow continued grants to women's business centers that are more than five years old. The administration had sought to cut funding for those centers.
