Set-Aside Alert, June, 2006

The Senate Small Business Committee has scheduled a confirmation hearing June 21 on the nomination of Steven Preston to head the Small Business Administration.

Preston was executive vice president of ServiceMaster, a large franchising company, and previously served as an investment banker.

Some critics have questioned his qualifications because of his long career in big businesses. But House Small Business Committee Chairman Don Manzullo (R-IL) said Preston's "wealth of experience in executive leadership and financial management ... will serve him well at the SBA."
