Japan to launch Mobile Suica combining services from NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, and East Japan Railway Co.(SERVICES)
2.5G-3G, February, 2006
Japan has introduced a new mobile service for trains run by East Japan Railway Co. The service is called as Mobile Suica. KDDI Corp. and NTT DoCoMo Inc. would offer the mobile services, while JR East will provide Suica IC card services. The railway company said that customers can travel in Tokyo using their handsets once they pay for the online train passes or train fees.
The users need to hold their cell-phones over card readers at the ticket counters. The same can be used for electronic movie tickets. The company expects the number of users in the first year of launch to reach one million. Subscribers can use the service in regions where private railway companies have offered PiTaPa smartcard facilities. It can be used with Suica and ICOCA smartcard services....
