SK Telecom (SKT) selected InterDigital Communications Corporation for the development of a mobility solution supporting nationwide session continuity.
SKT s subscribers will enjoy nationwide handover while traversing between UMTS and WiBro networks leveraging the new solution. The agreement will also see the two companies collaborating on projects in the future.
InterDigital will provide software solutions as well as system design for dual-mode WiBro/UMTS terminals. According to SKT s VP for Terminal Device and Access Network R & D Center, Dr. Jong Tae Ihm, SKT s subscribers can access packet-based applications and next-generation multimedia applications calling for interface speeds of 30-50Mbps while traversing between different networks, in the near future.
