NTC Thailand says 3G, WiMAX license auction to begin in October.(POLICY)

Thailand's National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) chairman, Choochart Promprasit, has stated that the country will auction 3G mobile licenses and that the process is expected to start in October 2007. The framework to work out the allocation of four UMTS licenses and WiMAX spectrum in the 5GHz band will be completed by September 2007.

The three main competitors in the market have said that they should be preferred over other bidders in awarding the licenses. However, the regulator has not commented on the type of bidding process.
