Internet Business Newsletter, January, 2004

Peppercoin, a maker of online micropayment technology, said the Smithsonian Institute will deploy its technology to sell 33,000 folk songs online, according to the Boston Globe. The Smithsonian Institute has been busy converting the folk songs into digital format for its online launch in April.

The songs will cost 99 cents. Peppercoin spokespeople say its micropayment technology can shave more than 70 percent off the cost of collecting payment for online transactions under $1, making them profitable.
