Global IPTV user base grows by 179 percent to reach 8.2 million.(MARKET INTELLIGENCE)

The worldwide IPTV user base has grown by 179 percent during the past year, according to the DSL Forum. The global IPTV base has increased to 8.2 million. Laurie Gonzalez, marketing director of the DSL Forum, said that the widespread success of IPTV has proved its critics wrong. DSL Forum COO Robin Mersh, who said that the popularity of IPTV is steadily increasing, echoed his sentiment.

The DSL forum said that Europe added more than 3 million IPTV subscribers during the past year, thereby increasing total IPTV subscriber base to around 5 million.
