Brazil's Oi mobile operator chalks up 4 mln users.(Brief Article)

Oi, the wireless arm of Brazilian group Telemar launched in mid-2002, said it had reached 4 million users after attracting 1.2 million clients since the start of October.

Oi, which means "Hi" in Brazilian Portuguese, is the fourth biggest mobile operator in Brazil with a little more than 8 percent market share, according to data released by Brazil's telephone sector regulator, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).

Vivo, a joint venture between Iberian groups Telefonica and Portugal Telecom, is the leader with about 45 percent market share.

Claro, which is owned by Mexico's America Movil follows with a 20.4 percent market share, and Telecom Italia Mobile is third with almost 18 percent share.
