Brazilian operators demand number portability.(BRAZIL)(Brief Article)

Luis Cerasoli, director of Regulatory Affairs at Embratel, and Carlos Nunes, vice president of Regulatory Affairs at GVT, requested that telecom regulator Anatel stop delaying the regulation that would allow number portability beginning in 2007.

The number portability issue was included in the privatization contracts dating back to 1998 that required the rules to be set by the end of 2005. Until now, Anatel has tried to reach a "consensus solution," explained Pedro Ziller, advisor to Anatel.
