Imagine being able to verify when and where a customer purchased a returned camera--even if a receipt isn't presented. This knowledge could help retailers not only determine whether or not they must refund the customer (they might learn the customer purchased the camera someplace else), but also resolve warranty disputes if there's no way of establishing the equipment's age. Having this vital information at their fingertips could avoid disputes at the counter, keeping both sides happy and ensuring a repeat customer. This scenario could play itself out one day, should a technological concept being tested in its developmental stages prove successful.
