Farewell, film: commercial facilities officially discontinue traditional services.

Digital services are the bulk of the business for most commercial facilities. That's nothing new.

But in 2004, two commercial imaging facilities notified customers they were officially no longer offering any film services.

Last fall, The Color Place in Dallas, Texas, which opened as a professional photo lab in 1972, told customers it was discontinuing processing film and providing most traditional services, including processing and proofing rolls of film, slide dupes, and enlarger printing. At the time of the announcement, traditional services comprised about 10 percent of the business.
