The government's pension lifeboat has found itself in stormy waters this week as the consultation period reaches its conclusion.

The Pension Protection Fund (PPF) came in for heavy criticism on all sides as the Confederation for British Industry, National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) and Mercer Human Resource Consulting were among the industry big-hitters pummelling the proposals.

The PPF stands accused of underestimating how much it will need to meet its liabilities, and had its principles of fairness and proportionality questioned, but are we losing sight of the bigger picture?
