News: Barclays builds new bond indices.(Barclays Capital)(Brief Article)

Financial Times Mandate, September, 2002

Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays, has launched a sterling inflation-linked bond index.

The index, a companion to the Barclays Global Inflation-linked bond index and the Barclays sterling bond index, is divided into gilt and non-gilt.

Non-gilt is further divided into agency/supranational, corporate, utility and insurance-wrapped.

The non-gilt and overall indices have a base date of December 31 1999 and the gilt index has a base date of December 31 1996.

"The market is now valued at more than GBP6bn and is mature enough to require a dedicated index," said William Lloyd, head of portfolio strategies and index products at Barclays Capital.
