Strategic Investment Solutions (SIS) has picked up a three-year investment consulting brief with the New Jersey Investment Council.
The investment consultant beat off competition from eight other applicants and finally won the mandate after being "the best match for the scope of the work".
According to the New Jersey treasurer John McCormac, the fund, which has assets in excess of $100bn (e80bn), appointed SIS because its existing activities did not met the funds' needs.
"New Jersey's consultant services to date have been limited to monitoring and benchmarking performance. While these functions are important, they fall short of what pension funds of New Jersey's size do to keep in tune with trends in financial markets."
