Coalition of women NGOs pressure Philippine Senate to pass anti-AWIR bill.(Issues)

(Manila, Philippines) Advocates for pro-women and pro-people legislative reforms rallied at the Philippine Senate grounds on 25 November 2003 to put pressure on the senators to pass the Bill on Anti-Abuse of Women in Intimate Relationships (Anti-AWIR).

"Please pass the anti-AWIR Bill. It's the only way that We'll get protection from abuses from our partners. Many of us are not married. Even if we file reports, as soon as the [authorities] find out we're not married, they dismiss our complaints," Ka Nora, a survivor of an abusive relationship implored Senator Loi Estrada, Chair of the Committee on Women, at a dialogue held during the rally organised by Sama-samang Inisyatiba ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Pagbabago ng Batas at Lipunan (SIBOL).
