Fidelity proves it's a giant performer.

Paul Kafka, Fidelity's urbane public relations man, occasionally gets frustrated by what Financial Times journalists write about the fund management industry. He feels we do not give enough credit to active managers.

Well, Paul, you are going to like this piece. Because I was looking through the Lipper rankings of personal equity plans when I noticed a remarkable thing.

Over the 10-year period to 1 March, Fidelity does not just have the best performing Pep. It has the second best, the third and the sixth.

Nor is this some geographical quirk, whereby a specialist fund manager happens to benefit from, say, the good performance of emerging markets. Two of Fidelity's top performers were focused on the US, one in Europe and the other in the UK....
