Barclays to boost fixed income by expansion.

Barclays Global Investors is seeking to provide more strategies for fixed income clients by expanding its specialist team.

Four appointments announced last week will help the team build up specialist long/ short fixed income products, as well as increase expertise in using derivatives to protect long-only bond funds against credit risk.

All four of the new recruits will report to Tim Webb, head of fixed income advanced active strategies for BGI. Heather DeGarmo, who joins from Goldman Sachs Asset Management, will manage the European long/short credit funds. John Maskell, who will be the new head of interest rate strategies, joins from Barclays Capital.
