Former NAPF chairman and senior Mercer consultant Peter Thompson has followed in the footsteps of three other former NAPF chairmen by joining Bestrustees as an independent trustee.

Thompson, who was chairman from 2001 to 2003, joins the team that includes former chairmen Charles Woodward, Clive Gilchrist and Sheila Gleig CBE.

Thompson is an actuary with almost 30 years' experience in pensions and for the past 25 years he has worked with Mercer Human Resource Consulting in London, Leeds and Manchester.

Of the role of the trustee he said: "It's a more demanding area now and the amount of things trustees have to know is staggering - it'll be a big challenge."
