Domino's put in another appetising performance in the first six months of 2005, and strengthened its position as the UK's leading provider of takeaway pizzas. Like-for-like sales in the 317 mature stores grew by 8.4 per cent, boosted by the successful launch of the Cheese Steak Melt pizza, and also because of weak comparables last year. But the company warned that, due to an exceptionally strong final quarter in 2004, the second half will tell a different story. "Matching the first half's like-for-like growth will be challenging," said chief executive Stephen Hemsley.

A record 23 new stores were opened in the half, taking the total to 380. Looking ahead, the company plans to open a total of between 800 and 1,000 Domino's Pizza outlets in the UK and Ireland....
