Simon Group has spent years bouncing from one potential bid situation to the next, and that continued when discussions with a potential suitor, ongoing since last December, collapsed.

In the meantime, the group warned that Ferryways' decision to move some of its volume away from the Humber Sea Terminal (HST) Dunkirk route would affect profits. The continuing absence of a customer for berth 2 of the HST day slot also hit performance, though Simon says that the space will be filled later this year.

But Simon Group is moving ahead, with extensions to berths 1 and 2 to support deep-sea car carriers from Korea and Japan. Debt has increased from GBP9.9m last year to GBP22.8m to fund the expansion, which should be completed by the year-end. Planning...
