678p - Pharmaceuticals - Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) stands out among the UK's biotechnology companies for one big reason: it is the first British biotech company to have a blockbuster product on the market. Humira, the company's antibody drug for rheumatoid arthritis, is marketed by CAT's US partner, Abbott Laboratories, and last year made sales of $1.4bn (GBP800m). This shouldn't be a flash in the pan, either. Abbott expects Humira's sales to rise to $1.9bn in 2006. And City analysts think that figure will be $3.4bn by 2010.

So, while the UK biotech sector has had its ups and downs in recent years (alright, mainly downs), CAT stands out as proof of what can be achieved. And, whatever the future may hold for the company, its research programme is...
