"Like-for-like sales have started 2007 terrifically," says Domino's finance director Lee Ginsberg, referring to current trading from existing outlets compared with this time last year. Overall, last year's like-for-like sales were up 9.7 per cent but, in the first six weeks of 2007, they were up a tasty 14.3 per cent.
Much of that growth is down to the efficacy of Domino's promotional activities and special offers, although a new system for getting pizzas out of the door quicker has also encouraged customers to return. On top of this, Domino's opened 46 new stores - slightly missing its internal target of 50 new stores each year - although Mr Ginsberg is confident that the company will meet that target this year.
