AFTER ALMOST 15 YEARS OF WATCHING the workplace improvement fad pendulum swing away from practices that promote high levels of employee involvement, empowerment, or whatever you want to call treating all employees like valued individuals, we are starting to see it swing back toward those necessary practices. The new and improved term for this condition will be "work force engagement," but its tenets will be familiar to those of us who grew up in workplaces that aspired to be employee-focused.

It's about time. We've wasted a lot of good ideas and lost the hearts of many ...
