Plug Power's (www.plugpower.com) GenSys 5C fuel cell system has been certified by the California Air Resources Board as meeting the 2007 distributed generation emission standards requirement. In 2001, the Air Resources Board adopted regulations pursuant to the California Health and Safety Code to establish a statewide Distributed Generation Certification Program to certify electrical generation technologies that are exempt from local air pollution control district permitting.
