Large-format rechargeable battery producer Lithium Technology Corporation (LTC) recently announced it has received a purchase order from Lockheed Martin Space Systems for three of LTC's GAIA brand products -- 6Ah Double-D cylindrical cells, 27Ah flat cells for high-power applications and large format 60Ah cylindrical cells for high-energy applications.
According to LTC, the cells are expected to be tested at Lockheed Martin Space Systems' battery laboratory as well as in specific applications, with the company noting that Lockheed has "numerous applications for both high-power and high-energy lithium ion batteries in its satellite launch vehicles and other systems integration projects."
