Ozone Depletion Today, June, 2004

Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) recently provided recommendations for consumers looking to reduce their energy costs this summer through the purchase of energy efficient air conditioning (A/C) systems and proper maintenance.

According to PG&E, consumers should consider the purchase of A/C units that feature a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) of 13 or greater and an energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 11 or greater in order to benefit from energy savings.

PG&E said consumers should also hire certified heating and A/C technicians to conduct annual inspections of existing A/C units in order to check the system for refrigerant leaks; proper functioning of safety devices; adequate air flow; and proper and efficient operation.
