Wales Receives Additional Funding for Fridge Recycling Efforts.

Ozone Depletion Today, February, 2005

Letsrecycle.com recently reported that the U.K. government has allocated 2.83 million pounds (approximately $5.4 million) to the Wales Assembly to help support local refrigerator recycling efforts.

According to the website, ozone-depleting substances found in refrigerators, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), must be properly disposed of under European Commission (EC) laws.

"It is vital that old fridges are disposed of safely, and the EC Regulation ensures that ozone-depleting substances are not released from them," said U.K. environment minister Carwyn Jones. "This extra money from the Assembly government will be a great help towards the extra costs that proper fridge disposal creates for local authorities."
