Howmet Wins 'Superior Performance Award'

Modern Casting, Feb, 2001

Howmet Corp. (Alcoa) Darien, Connecticut, has won a "Superior Performance Award" from Boeing Co. for its efforts to supply titanium castings for the F-22.

Howmet achieved "sustained superior schedule performance throughout 1999 and 2000," according to Robert D. Barnes, vice president in charge of Boeing's F-22 program.

"Since partnering with the Boeing Co., Howmet has developed and productionized investment-cast structural titanium parts for use in more than a dozen applications, many of them fracture-critical," said Michael Darrah, general manager of the Howmet Hampton Structural Castings facility, which supplies the components.

Howmet, which is part of Alcoa's Industrial Components business unit, manufactures precision castings, primarily for jet aircraft and industrial gas turbine engines.
