CAN-ENG has recently introduced its Basketless Heat Treating System (BHTS[TM]) for the processing of aluminum intensive automobile components. Our BHTS[TM] reduces energy consumption by 40% and floor space requirements by 30% when compared to conventional roller hearth systems. The BHTS[TM] incorporates a unique material handling system that provides for single piece product flow. As result, this lean manufacturing concept transfers castings through the system without the use of baskets, carriers or trays. The elimination of baskets, which require continuous repairs and replacement, reduces capital and operating costs and also reduces energy consumption required to process product.

The BHTS[TM] design results in a more compact footprint with significantly less maintenance requirements. Options exist for unique system layouts, which can be integrated into lean manufacturing cells. Along with our BHTS[TM] system, CAN-ENG has developed a Precision Air Quench System (PAQ[TM]) for the engineered quenching of production aluminum castings. This new development in air quenching technology delivers uniform properties across each casting and tighter distortion control while allowing for multiple cooling rates on individual parts.
