Wachovia Corp.(closes Raleigh, NC, center)(Brief Article)

RALEIGH -- Wachovia Corp. is closing a Raleigh operations center, putting 245 people out of work. The center's duties -- check processing, account reconciliation and statement rendering -- will be moved to offices in Columbia, S.C., Charlotte and Atlanta. The move comes as Wachovia, like Centura, prepares for lower-than-expected earnings, which it warned of in June.
