A 2003 U.S. Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer was awarded to Toshifumi Sugama of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory and Keith Gawlik of DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for their development and transfer of a smart, high-performance coating.
The coating is based on Fortron polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) from Ticona, the Summit, N.J.-based technical polymers business of Celanese AG, and sold under the name CurraLon by Curran International, Inc. (Houston).
