A new set of logos and standards to help consumers identify British, English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish organic food has been developed by The Soil Association.

The move will help shoppers identify national and local food in shops and enable organic farmers and food manufacturers to clearly indicate to customers the origin of their goods.

The logos will be available for use by organic producers and processors at no extra charge, regardless of their certification body.

They have been designed to incorporate the certifying body's logo along with the country or region of origin.

According to The Soil Association, the standards combine strictness on production with flexibility on processing.
