Advanced Ceramics Report, July, 1993
DuPont has signed a letter of intent to buy Monsanto's worldwide colloidal silica business. DuPont will acquire Monsanto's production facilities at Ruabon, UK, the 'Syton' trademark and all related assets of the business. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
The main uses of colloidal silica are as a binder in precision investment casting and ceramic fibres shapes, in semiconductor wafer polishing, and catalysts, paints, paper and steel treatments, and in beverage clarification. DuPont already sells colloidal silica under the 'Ludox' trademark.
