Control of texture in pitch-based carbon fibres

The properties of pitch-based carbon fibres are closely linked to the texture developed in the fibre during the various steps in its production. A research team at Kyushu University, in Japan, has explored methods of controlling the fibre texture by varying the shape of the spinning nozzle used to produce the fibre, in combination with a variety of melt spinning and heat treatment temperatures ('Control of transversal texture in circular mesophase pitch-based carbon fibre using non-circular spinning nozzles', by I.
