Dow obtains license to sell divinylbenzene

Union Carbide has granted Dow Chemical Co an exclusive worldwide license to sell divinylbenzene (DVB) for use in Union Carbide's patented process for the production of fibre reinforced moulded compounds. Union Carbide's process uses DVB as a reactive monomer in cross linking unsaturated polyester resins. The process is claimed to be particularly effective in fast-cure systems for improving interlaminar strength and reducing blistering and paint popping. Under the terms of the agreement, Dow has the right to grant licenses in connection with the DVB monomer and for the sale of additive mixtures containing DVB.
