Slingsby achieves FAA and CAA certification for the Firefly

Slingsby Aviation of York, UK, has gained Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) certification for its 'T67 M260 Firefly', making it the world's first all glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) airframe to receive air worthiness approvals. The United States Air Force has now ordered 113 examples of this pioneering two-seater acrobatic trainer. The certifications followed an extensive ground-based stress and fatigue test programme designed to verify that the laboratory tests represented the real stresses on the structure in the air.
