Airliner window frames pass inspection.(AEROSPACE)
Advanced Composites Bulletin, April, 2007
The Nordam Group Inc has been given the go-ahead by The Boeing Co to supply composite window frames for the 787 Dreamliner. The frames will be produced using Hexcel Corp's HexMC--a highly-filled epoxy sheet moulding compound, specially designed for compression moulding.
The Nordam frames are the first composite window frames for a commercial airliner, the company says. It has taken 18 months of detailed specification development, design configurations, and qualification and certification testing for the frames to receive approval from Boeing. The initial ship sets have been delivered to Boeing's fuselage manufacturing partners: Alenia, Kawaski Heavy Industries, Spirit Aerosystems and Vought Aircraft Industries.
