KPC has been negotiating with Iran for years for a 300 MCF/d supply contract and a pipeline to be built across the Gulf. This has been discussed in parallel with a water pipeline from Iran to Kuwait. At the same time some progress has been reached in protracted talks between Kuwait and Iran on resolving the maritime dispute over the gas-rich continental shelf which contains the Dorra gas field.

Settlement of the dispute has been delayed by experts still discussing the issue. The dispute dates back to the 1960s over the offshore gas field which Iran claims to be part its territory.

Kuwait Gulf Oil Co. (KGOC), a unit of KPC, in April 2009 began developing Dorra even before an agreement on this was reached with Saudi Arabia and Iran. KGOC Chairman/CEO...
