The necessary trimming of Campbell Soup Co's treasury management department staff has not affected operations because of the firm's state-of-the-art treasury management systems. All of the department's major functions have been automated and its staff has been cut down to seven. Campbell's lean treasury department now relies on a number of systems, including those for treasury management, domestic netting, account analysis, wire transfer, automated clearinghouse, bank relationship, commercial paper, bank credit ratings, documentary letters of credit and foreign exchange drafts. In addition to a smaller staff, the automation of Campbell's treasury department has resulted in lesser banking expenses, better cash flows and lower risk to the firm's cash resources.
